Lockdown likely to be extended by two more weeks. Check what else could reopen


Prime Minister Narendra Modi may announce extending the lockdown by two more weeks after the current lockdown ends on May 31.

Modi may well speak about Lockdown 5.0 in his radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’ on Sunday, May 31, the India Today website reported on May 27.

The lockdown will focus on Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, Pune, Thane, Indore, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Surat and Kolkata, where 70% of the Covid-19 cases have been reported. This means these cities will see many restrictions.

What else could reopen?

1) Religious places could be allowed to reopen but with restrictions, the website reported. But there may be no religious events, such as fairs and festivals or mass congregations. They would be strict social distancing.

2) Gyms could also reopen.

3) Weddings and funerals with a cap on the number of guests.

Other media reports say malls and cinema theatres may be allowed to reopen in green zones.

What will stay closed?

1) Schools, colleges and universities.
