HUBBALLI: Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) Hospital will be the first government hospital to have all kinds of super specialty units in North Karnataka as a super specialty hospital on its premises is nearing completion.
The specialty hospital is being constructed at a cost of Rs. 150 crore on two acres adjacent to the existing KIMS building. The work was to be completed by February 2018 but was delayed by a year.
With eight departments, the hospital will accommodate 160 beds, 40-bed ICU and outpatient departments. An exclusive pediatric surgery block, neurology department, a neurosurgery block with ICU, urology, nephrology, medical oncology, plastic surgery, and surgical gastroenterology departments will be established here.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be inaugurating the super specialty hospital on March 6 through a video conference. However, it may take a few more months for the hospital to be fully operational as nursing and other staff have to be appointed.
