JOHNSON AND JOHNSON CANCER CASE: COURT ORDERS COMPANY TO PAY 29 MILLION DOLLAR COMPENSATION

A US court in the state of California ordered Johnson & Johnson to pay $29 million dollars to a woman for cancer complications she developed from using the company’s talcum powder, according to media reports.

The verdict, in California Superior Court marks the latest defeat for Johnson & Johnson, which faces more than 13,000 talc-related lawsuits nationwide.

The woman had alleged that traces of asbestos in J&J’s products such as Johnson’s baby powder led to her contracting mesothelioma, a form of cancer that affects the lungs and heart.

J&J said it was disappointed with the verdict and would appeal, citing “serious procedural and evidentiary errors” in the course of the trial.
