HUBBALLI: Bailhongal police have arrested three people, including a man from Hubballi, who were illegally transporting rice worth lakhs of rupees.
The police, who checked lorry no KA63/5626 under suspicious circumstances near Gaddikaravinakoppa Cross on the Bailhongal-Belagavi Road, found the lorry to be carrying the illegal supply of rice. They have seized 500 sacks of 50 kg of ration supply rice worth Rs 5 lakh and the lorry worth Rs 8 lakh.
In addition, the police have seized rice worth Rs 2.4 lakh from the godown at Bankapur Chowk and are keeping watch over the place.
Manjunath Virupakshappa Harlapura, native of Bidnala in Hubballi and owner of the rice godown; Jamalkhan Sattarkhan Pathan, the lorry driver, and Dilawarkhan Sattarkhan Pathan, the lorry cleaner, both of whom are residents of Pateshanagar in Hubballi, are the three men arrested in the case.
Bailhongal Circle Inspector U H Satenahalli led the team of police. Sub-inspector Eerappa Ritti, staff members D Y Naikar, U H Pujera and L B Hamani and food inspector Veerabhadra Sebannavar were part of the investigation.
The police have registered a case in this regard.
