HUBBALLI: The Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) will soon work at filling the potholes on the roads of the city. People, after much wait, are keeping their fingers crossed that they will get better roads.
The roads in the twin cities were damaged in the incessant rain recently. Members of various political parties and residents too had severely criticised the poor conditions of the roads and protested demanding repair of the roads. There were also cartoons drawn and put up on social media forums to mock the condition of the roads.
The HDMC, in response to such demands, decided to repair the roads, but the work was withheld due to the rain. Since the shower receded in the last few days, the work to fill the potholes would be taken up soon.
According to sources of the HDMC, a survey of the roads under the zonal offices was conducted. About Rs 3 crore will be used from the regular grants of the HDMC for the work. Some of the roads that are in very bad shape will have to be rebuilt, using Rs 20 crore.
Suresh Itnala, commissioner of the Municipal Corporation, said that grants received under the 15th Finance Commission and Mahatma Gandhi Vikas Yojana will be used for the road work.
