Hamals Stage Massive Protest In Hubballi

HUBBALLI: Demanding withdrawal of the APMC amendment Act, hamals staged a massive protest at APMC yard in the City on Wednesday.

Mahesh Pattar, general secretary of the State Hamal Federation, launched the stir. The workers undertook a procession in the city after garlanding the statue of Dr B R Ambedkar and protested outside the administrative office of the APMC.

“The government should immediately withdraw the Centre’s agriculture-related ordinances,” the workers demanded.

“Hamali workers should be given relief for the Covid-19 outbreak and ration kits. The project to provide housing and social security to the workers should be implemented,” they added.

Linguist Padmashri Dr Ganesh Devy, former legislator N H Konareddy, Samvidhan Suraksha Samithi coordinator Ashraf Ali, Karnataka Rakshana Vedike district president Amrut Ijari, Youth Congress leader Rajat Ullagaddimath, businessmen association president Basavaraj Ekalasapur, APMC member Channu Hosmani, former APMC president Ramachandra Jadhav, Jai Bhim Sena leader Hanumantha Somepalli, Mahadayi leaders Shivanna Hubballi, Veeranna Niralagi and D G Jantli, Lawyers’ Association member K H Patil, insurance workers’ association A M Khan, Karnataka Bhima Sene Samithi state president B D Madara and social activist S M Budankhan supported the protesting Hamals and spoke on the occasion.

The protest was led by Gurusiddappa Ambiger, Basavanneppa Niralagi, Kariyappa Dalvai, Hussainsab Nadaf, Katalsab Mulla, Manjunath Hujrati, Mohammad Rafique Mulugunda, Kariyappa Girisagar, Lakshmavva Hosuri, Prema Annigeri, Kakappa Jalgar, Nagaraj Muppannavar, Hanumanth Ambiger, Galeppa Mutyala, Noorahmed Kaladagi, among others.

APMC assistant secretary B S Marikatti was given the memorandum to be handed to the cooperation minister.

The Hamali workers have said that the protest will continue on Thursday as well. A memorandum will be handed over to the deputy commissioner.
