DHARWAD: The Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS), Mumbai, has arrested the man who allegedly shot dead Irfan Hanchinala alias Fruit Irfan at Hubballi on August 6.
The arrested has been identified as Anup Singh alias Ankur Singh alias Golu, 24, a native of Balarampur in Uttar Pradesh.
According to ATS, Singh, along with five others, had shot Fruit Irfan while he was attending his son’s marriage ceremony on Karwar Road in Hubballi.
“We received information that Singh is coming to Andheri to meet a person. Accordingly, we laid a trap at the station area and brought him to our office for inquiry,” said Inspector Daya Naik.
Singh is said to have admitted to shooting Irfan during the interrogation.
According to an Indian Express report, Singh was arrested by the Mumbai police in 2016 and imprisoned in the Arthur Road jail where Singh apparently came in contact with sharp-shooters Aftab Mohammadali Bepari (23), Tousif Sadiq Nippani (24), Atiyabkhan Tadkod (23) and Mohin Dadasab Patel (29), residents of Dharwad in Karnataka, and Amir Tamatgar (22) from Old Hubballi.
When Singh was released from the jail he was offered money to kill Irfan and took up the job, it reported.
