Biggest-Ever Spike In Covid-19 Cases In Karnataka, But Fewer Deaths

Karnataka reported 2,228 cases of Covid-19 between 5 pm, July 8, and 5 pm, July 9, the biggest-ever increase during a 24-hour period.

The state tested a record 20,028 samples during the 24-hour period, of which 17,568 samples tested negative. With 2,228 new cases, Karnataka has seen 31,105 cases of Covid-19 to date. The total fatalities stand at 486 after 17 new deaths.

A total of 457 patients are serious as they remain in the ICU.

Bengaluru Urban continues to top the list of the worst affected districts with 1,373 new cases during the 24-hour period.

The other top districts are: Dakshina Kannada (167), Kalaburagi (85), Dharwad (75), Mysuru (52), Ballari (41), Davangere (40), Shivamogga (37), Bagalkot (36), Kolar (34), Chikkaballapur (32), Tumakuru (27), Mandya (24), Uttara Kannada (23), Udupi (22), Hassan (21), Haveri (18), Ramanagara (17), Yadgir, Raichur, Bengaluru Rural (16 each), Bidar (15), Chamarajanagar (12), Belagavi (9), Gadag (6), Chikkamagaluru (5), Kodagu (4), Koppal, Chitradurga (2 each) and Vijayapura (1).

On the positive side, a record 957 patients were discharged during the said 24-hour period, including 606 discharges in the Bengaluru Urban district.
